SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona State Troopers Association, the organization representing Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) employees, has endorsed Representative Pamela Carter's campaign for the Arizona State Legislature.
In a letter from Association President Jeffery Hawkins, the AZ Troopers Board of Directors confirmed its endorsement and explained the standard the organization applies before backing any candidate for public office.
"Qualities such as ethics and integrity are at the top of the list. Additionally, a commitment to public safety should be a leading priority for any candidate seeking public office, as well as a willingness to adequately fund public safety." — Arizona State Troopers Association
A standard built on integrity
The Arizona State Troopers Association represents the troopers and DPS employees who patrol the state's highways and respond to emergencies statewide. Its decision to endorse Representative Carter reflects a judgment that she meets the association's bar on every count — ethics, integrity, a commitment to public safety, and the willingness to fund it.
That last point matters. Public-safety agencies cannot do their jobs without adequate resources, and the association specifically looks for lawmakers who will stand up for that funding. As Vice Chair of the House Public Safety Committee, Representative Carter is positioned to do exactly that.
Standing with those who serve
"Our troopers run toward danger so the rest of us can get home safely," said Representative Carter. "To have the men and women of the Arizona State Troopers Association stand with me means everything. I'll keep working to make sure they have the funding, the backup, and the respect they've earned."
A coalition of Arizona's law enforcement
The Troopers Association endorsement is the latest from Arizona's law-enforcement community to stand behind Representative Carter, joining the Arizona Conference of Police & Sheriffs (AZCOPS), Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, and Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan.
